Walter Waitus Altman

Walter Waitus Altman, 92, beloved husband of Rosalie Richardson Altman, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at his home.

Born on April 28, 1934, in Marion County, he was a son of the late Corben Altman and the late Lucille Enzor Altman. Mr. Altman was a proud United States Air Force veteran, having served his country during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Lakewood Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon and was involved in several church committees.

For many years, Mr. Altman worked as a route salesman for Lance, where he enjoyed getting to know the many people he met along the way. In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, especially shrimping and fishing.

Mr. Altman will be remembered for his devotion to his country, his church, and the simple things in life that brought him joy.

Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; four children, Tim Altman (Sharon) of Huger, Gerald Altman (Nancy) of Georgetown, Cheryl O’Rear (Sean) of Pawleys Island and Brian Altman (Christie) of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Brice Altman of Georgetown, Matthew Altman (Erin) of Rock Hill, Grace Klauss (Billy) of Goose Creek, Chris Altman (Victoria) of Hampton, Hunter Lambert (Elliott) of West Ashley, Kori Altman of Georgetown, Kylie O’Rear of Pawleys Island, Kristen O’Rear of Charleston, Connor Altman of Mt. Pleasant and Emma Altman of Mt. Pleasant; six great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Tanner (John) of Johnsonville and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Waitus “Ronnie” Altman; one grandson, Jason Altman; one great granddaughter, Reagan Altman; one daughter-in-law, Betty Altman; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Lakewood Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Souls Chapel Cemetery in Gresham.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church or to Agape Hospice.
