Rhett Tindall

Julius Everett Tindall Jr “Rhett”, 79, of Georgetown, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026.

Born on January 6, 1947, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Julius Everette Tindall and the late Mable Singley Tindall. Growing up Mr. Tindall was an inquisitive experimenter. He worked with electronics and even built go-carts. His parents instilled a strong work ethic. As a teenager, he started a robust lawn-mowing business and even picked cotton, once, on his uncle’s farm in Neeses. After getting up with the roosters and picking cotton all morning, he made 68 cents and then decided he’d better double down on his education.

Mr. Tindall enjoyed water sports, frequently skiing at Lake Murray. He liked trick skiing the best but would even ski on a boat paddle just for the fun of it. He also had a love for music. After taking 6 years of piano and organ, he joined a band that played around Columbia and in Myrtle Beach.

Mr. Tindall attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He participated in ROTC and was commissioned as a Naval Officer. Mr. Tindall took flight training and became a private pilot. He joined Chi Psi Fraternity, and his soon-to-be bride was elected their sweetheart. After serving in the US Navy, Mr. Tindall later provided engineering support to the Navy’s nuclear ballistic missile submarine systems.

In 1981, Mr. Tindall started a company creating software products (electronic mail, word processing, and spreadsheet) for early multiuser microcomputer operating systems. Later his company was among the first to develop graphics-based educational measurement software for the Macintosh computer and later for Windows PCs–which became used worldwide for online licensure and certification testing. He enjoyed working with technology, boating, hunting, fishing, and family cruising. Mr. Tindall was also a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown

Above all, Mr. Tindall loved his family, his friends, and his Christian faith.

Surviving are his wife, Charla Grimsley Tindall; sons, Grayson Everett Tindall (Shannon), and Trenton Charles Tindall; beloved granddaughter Hadley Olivia Tindall; sister, Beverly Tindall Sparkman (Tom); nieces, Cara Anne Cooper (Ben), Kimberly Tindle (Steve), Leigh Russell (Andy), Alyssa Colchin (Roger) and Adrienn Grimsley; nephews, Thomas Ryan Sparkman, Hughes McMurray (Casey) and John McMurray (Michelle); sister-in-law, Annette Grimsley Craig (Don); and brother-in-law, Alan Franklin Grimsley (Janina).

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Tindall McMurray.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, September 6, 2026, at First Baptist Church. Entombment will be private in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Sunday at the church.
