Rev. John Wilson “J.W.” Casselman, Sr., husband of Karen Roberts Casselman, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home.
Born on January 25, 1950, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Beaufort Gilbert Casselman and the late Juanita Ward Casselman. Rev. Casselman devoted his life to serving others both in ministry and in the military. His commitment to service was exemplified through his time in the United States Marine Corps where he earned a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. After his military service, Rev. Casselman worked for Georgetown Steel, where he spent 25 years in the rolling mill.
Rev. Casselman found his calling in ministry at New Hope Fellowship Church, where he served faithfully for 21 years. His sermons, filled with wisdom and love, inspired many and provided comfort and guidance to those in need. Rev. Casselman’s ministry extended beyond his local community. He was deeply involved in mission work where he touched countless lives with his compassion and dedication. Serving both his country and the Lord were sources of immense pride for Rev. Casselman.
He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 649, where he forged lifelong friendships and worked tirelessly to support fellow veterans. Rev. Casselman was a father figure to many, offering support and mentorship with kindness and understanding. He will be remembered as a devoted servant of God and a proud veteran. Rev. Casselman leaves behind a legacy of love, service and dedication.
Survivors include his wife of Andrews, Karen Roberts Casselman of Andrews; the mother of his children, Mary Ruth Michau of Murrells Inlet; five children, John W. Casselman, Jr. (Lidia) of Murrells Inlet, Chad Casselman (Jess) of Myrtle Beach, Chasity Morris of Andrews, Cierston Morris of Andrews, Carah Grayce Graham of Andrews; five grandchildren, Haley Richards (Chad) of Murrells Inlet, Jonathan Casselman of Murrells Inlet, Ruby Daraban of Murrells Inlet, CC Haas of Myrtle Beach and Dagney Casselman of Myrtle Beach; one great grandchild, Juliette Richards of Murrells Inlet; two brothers, Harold Casselman (Margie) of Ohio and Bruce Casselman (Glenda) of Andrews; four sisters, Harriett "Teddy" Ethridge of Andrews, Genelle Young (Marion) of Andrews, Barbara Tisdale of Andrews and Carolyn Fulton (Phillip) of Andrews; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie P. Casselman of St. Stephens and Bobbi C. Bryant (Greg) of Andrews; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sylvester Casselman, Carl Casselman and Harris Casselman; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Casselman.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at New Hope Fellowship Church. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM – 3PM Tuesday at the church.
