Marty Benton

Marlyn Bennie “Marty” Benton, 87, of Georgetown, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on September 27, 2026.

Marlyn was born on August 29, 1939. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, veteran, and preacher, a true man of faith who touched the lives of countless people throughout his 87 years.

He was the loving husband of Minnie Sue Benton, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Marlyn is survived by his children, Andrea Amann (David), Jeffrey Benton (Ginger), Daniel Benton (Frannie), and Shayne Benton, and his daughter-in-love, Shannon Benton.

He was a proud grandfather to Kaylee McCann (Brandon), Brittany Sapp, Johnny Cook (Brittany-Ann), Ashley Amann, Leah Benton, Michael Benton, Brayden Benton, Ansley Benton, Cheyanne Hanford, Logan Hanford, Cynthia Benton, Nathan Benton, Marshall Benton, Bailey and Charleigh Pevey. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Olivia Redick, Kasen Wynn, Emery Powell, Talon McCann, and Emma McCann and a grand-dog Lilly.

Marlyn was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Benton, his parents, and his siblings, Anita, Joyce, Barbara, Roger, and Loree.

Marlyn proudly served his country, spending three years in the United States Army and five years in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to education and retired as a South Carolina history teacher. He loved sharing what he knew and helping others learn.

A man of many interests, Marlyn enjoyed fishing, hunting and guns, gardening, western books and television shows, and spending time watching shows at the Alabama Theatre. Above all, Marty loved his family and had a heart for teaching others about Jesus and his faith.

Marlyn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, service, education, and family. The lessons he taught, the stories he shared, and the love he gave will live on through the many people who were fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Marty’s memory.
