Mark Anthony Harrelson, 65, husband of Mary Katherine “Katie” Harrelson, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at MUSC.
Born on January 2, 1961, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Gordon Harrelson and the late Dorothy Bookhart Harrelson. Mark was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, a US Army veteran and retired from International Paper Company. He was born with a passion for everything fast, Mark was an avid NASCAR fan and a loved Dale Earnhardt, Sr. His excitement for racing extended beyond the track to his beloved hobby of racing RC boats and riding motorcycles. Mark worked as a mechanic and took great pride in his work, finding joy in fixing and understanding the complexities of machinery. He was a simple man that enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was always offering a peace sign to his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Katherine "Katie" Harrelson of Georgetown; two children, Candyce Watford (Brent) and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Swails (Bradley Barnes) all of Georgetown; two step children, Krystal Owens (Jimmy) and Kristoffer Collins all of Georgetown; nine grandchildren, Victoria, Christine, Ameera, Bella Rose, Scarlet, Pearl, Connor, Andrew and Anna Bell; one great grandchild, Jacob; one brother, Daniel "Eddie" Harrelson of Georgetown; one sister, Karen Harrelson (Will Cambrey) of Georgetown; numerous nieces and nephews; many special friends to include, Jerry and Cindy Moore of Georgetown and Michael and Ruthie Van Sciver of Myrtle Beach; and his caregiver, Debra Nesmith.
He was preceded in death by a brother Gordon Dennis Harrelson.
A memorial service will be held at 6 PM Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to MUSC Neuro Science or Trinity Lutheran Church
