Laura Jane Strickland Kirkland, 89, widow of Claude Dickinson Kirkland, Jr., passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at The Landings of Georgetown.
Born on August 30, 1937, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Watson Smith Strickland and the late Edna Mae Bunn Strickland. Mrs. Kirkland was a beloved member of First Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Georgetown School District. She was known for her kind heart, loving nature, and devotion to her family.
Mrs. Kirkland enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, and spending time creating crafts. One of her greatest joys was traveling to watch her son and husband play golf, always proudly supporting them wherever they went. She was also a devoted Clemson fan and enjoyed cheering on her Tigers. Above all, Mrs. Kirkland treasured her family and the time they shared together. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Survivors include one son, Claude D. "Tres" Kirkland, III and his wife Ginger of Shallotte, NC; one grandson, Cooper Michael Kirkland of Shallotte; three nephews, John Power Wilson, III of Georgetown, William Glennie Wilson and his wife Julie of Pawleys Island and James Michael Wilson and his wife Felicia of Georgetown; and three nieces, Martha McWhite Autry of Irmo, Jo Anne Wilson-Foxworth of Georgetown and Barbara McWhite of Irmo.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise McWhite and Betty Jo Wilson; and one brother, Watson Smith “Smitty” Strickland, Jr.,
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 20, 2026, at First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St. Georgetown, SC 29440 or to the charity of one's choice.
