Johnny D. Gossett, 74, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025.
Born on July 24, 1950, in Woodruff, he was a son of the late James H. Gossett and the late Norma White Gossett. Mr. Gossett served his country proudly as a United States Marine, having served in the Vietnam war. During his time as a Marine, Mr. Gossett received several medals and ribbons, to include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. He was a proud member of the Surfside Beach and Pawleys Island Moose Lodge, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and was a Mason. Aside from his love for his country, Mr. Gossett enjoyed NASCAR and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include life partner, Frances Shelley of Pawleys Island; three children, Candida “Candi” Smith of Union, Trampis Casey (Cate) of Union and Jewell Rivera (Luis) of Columbia; two grandchildren, Quindrick Holly of Charleston and Sgt. Austin Smith (Kayla) of Texas; and two great grandchildren, Kyzer Smith and Aria Smith; two nieces, Peggy Terry and Martha Swafford; and one nephew, Bill Gossett.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Sanders; one brother, James B. Gossett; and two sisters, Shirley J. Sellars and Patsy F. Beck.
Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Friday, June 27, 2025, in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Woodruff, SC.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Wednesday at Ridgeway Funeral Home
