James Dewey "Peanut" Mercer

James Dewey "Peanut" Mercer, 65, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his sister’s home.

Born on April 4, 1960, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Leland "Dutch" Mercer and the late Vernie Davis "Skeeter" Mercer. Mr. Mercer attended The Christian Fortress and had a great love for spending time outdoors. During his time outside, Mr. Mercer enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include three children, Dawn Price (Tara) of Calhoun Falls, Jessica Fleming (Craig) of Elberton, GA and David Mercer of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Anthony Alston (Joh'nieka) of Georgetown, Lane Fleming of Elberton, GA and Maci Fleming of Elberton, GA; one great grandchild, AJ Alston of Georgetown; one sister, Linda M. Miller of Georgetown; one brother, Gerald L. Mercer of Georgetown; cousins that were like sisters, Rene Bone of Andrews and Debbie Jenkins of Georgetown; special friends, Earl Atkinson and Andrea Witherspoon both of Bowling, Green, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Mercer and two brothers, Johnny L. Mercer and James Michael ''Mikie'' Mercer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 24, 2026, at The Christian Fortress. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends following the service.
