Hazel Powell Swails, 83, widow of Barry Theodore Swails, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025, at The Landings.

Born on April 30, 1942, in Andrews, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Powell and the late Effie Ethridge Powell. Mrs. Swails dedicated over 30 years of her life to Georgetown Memorial Hospital, where she made a profound impact in the Labor and Delivery department. Her gentle touch and compassionate care helped welcome countless new lives into the world, leaving a legacy that will be remembered for generations.

Mrs. Swails was a woman of many passions. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as gardening, getting lost in a good book, and challenging her mind with crossword puzzles and sudoku. An avid sports enthusiast, she relished watching the Atlanta Braves play.

Alongside her husband, she devoted countless hours to coaching the youth, imparting not only the skills of the game but also the values of teamwork and perseverance. Her involvement in the community was further demonstrated through her volunteer work with Relay for Life, where she contributed her time and energy to support a cause close to her heart.

Survivors include two children, Russell Barry Swails (Tara Evans) and Myra Caddell (Johnny Bogan) all of Georgetown; honorary child, Raymond Blakely (Jan) of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Caddell of Moncks Corner, Hillary Elizabeth Caddell of Georgetown and Reece Barrett Swails (Maddy Ward) of Georgetown; honorary grandchild, Anna Dew Collins (Rob) of Georgetown; two sisters, Harriett Powell Coker and Hulda Powell Hartley both of Andrews; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Powell of Andrews and Jackie Smith of VA; best friend, Betty Wells of Hemingway; nanny's friends, Jean Supina (Eric) of Georgetown and Joy Pack (Bobby) all of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Riley Barrett Swails; a sister, Helen Blackwood; and two brothers, Harold Powell and Hubert Powell.

Graveside Services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to The Landings "family" and Center Well Home Health for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Swails.
