Ethel Mildred Rabon Johnson, the cherished wife of Joseph Marvin Johnson and known affectionately as "Weise" by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on May 26, 2025, at the age of 91.
She was born on June 9, 1933, in Aynor, South Carolina, to George Harley Rabon and Ethel Maude Lewis Rabon. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a home filled with warmth, strength, and unwavering love. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a deep love for tending to her flowers, taking pride in the beauty, she cultivated both inside and outside her home. She had a deep love for all the animals she had throughout her years and enjoyed her late husband’s passion for tending to their garden growing fresh produce for the family.
Ethel is survived by her two children, Beverly Johnson McWethy (Billy), Samuel Micki Johnson, and her daughter-in-law Martha Johnson. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tiffany Johnson, Tabatha Johnson (Miki Medlin), and Brandon McWethy (Kelly); great-grandchildren: Samuel Boyington, Vincent Angel, Katelynn Belcher, Hunter Medlin, Emory McWethy, Lee McWethy, and Liam McWethy. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law Shirley Rabon, one sister, Grace Cannon, and one brother, JD Rabon as well as many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. In addition, she is survived by her step-grandchildren, Katie McWethy and Joshua McWethy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Marvin Johnson; her eldest son, Joseph Randall Johnson; her eldest granddaughter, Miranda Johnson; her brother, George Herman Rabon; and her sisters, Vonda Carter, Estalean Best, Hazel Euler, and Francis Matthews, one special and dear friend Betty Ricks, and a daughter-in-law Cheryl Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Entombment will follow.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Tidelands Community Hospice for the gentle and compassionate care they provided in her final days.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Ethel’s love, strength, and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished always, and her legacy of kindness, devotion, and grace will remain a guiding light for generations to come. She has made it to her eternal home to continue with her Loving Husband and family that passed on before her to rejoice.
