Edward Dee “EJ” Mitchum, Jr. passed away on November 25, 2025.
Born on March 9, 1992, in Charleston County, he was the son of Edward Dee Mitchum, Sr. and Katherine Jean Lilly Mitchum. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his dog, Charlie. EJ was a man of remarkable talent and heart. His hands were skilled and steady, always finding creative solutions and fixing anything that needed repair. This gift made him not just an excellent mechanic, but someone friends and family could always rely on. He approached every challenge with ingenuity and determination, never hesitating to lend a hand to those in need.
Generosity defined EJ. He was always willing to help, no matter the task or the hour. Whether it was a neighbor’s broken lawnmower or a friend’s car trouble, EJ was there—ready, resourceful, and kind. His selfless nature and unwavering support made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Beyond his skills and helpful spirit, EJ was a devoted father and son. He cherished his family deeply, finding joy in their company and pride in their accomplishments. Above all, EJ’s greatest love was for his children. He delighted in every moment spent together, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and unconditional love.
Survivors include; his mother and father of Andrews; Fiancé, Emily Burch of Andrews; seven children, Micah Mitchum, Jase Moore, Grace “Sissy” Hood, Addlynn Burch, Levi Burch, Gracelynn Burch and Nova Jean Burch; one brother, John “JC” Mitchum (Sara) of Kingstree; three nieces, Emma Skipper, Savannah Haase and Destiney Skipper; three nephews, John Davy Mitchum, Gabriel Mitchum and Hunter Hanna; maternal grandparents, Gloria and Randall Jones of Andrews, Aunts Jennifer Barnes (Johnny), Joanne Lilly, Candace Parker (John) all of Chester, Sharon Mitchum of Georgia, One Uncle Elvin Mitchum Jr (Joyce) of Macedonia Cousins: Trey Barnes, Harley Barnes, Layton Lilly, Neveah Lilly, Aaden Parker, Rylie Parker, Jonathan Wiley, MacKenzie Mitchum, Christlynn Just, Auston Worten, and Brittany Melendez.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sophia Freeman Mitchum; grandparents, Thomas Lilly; and Bonnie and Elvin Mitchum.
An Inurnment Service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the Mitchum Cemetery, 1653 East Church St. Bonneau, SC.
The family will receive friends following the service at 207 S. Cedar Ave. Andrews, SC 29510.
