Deborah Johnson “Debby” Summey, 75, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025, at Oak Hallow Rehab of Georgetown.
Debby was born on September 4, 1949, in Georgetown, a daughter of the late Everette Eugene Johnson and the late Vera Alice Porter Johnson. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a former choir member. Debby’s love for history was evident in every aspect of her life, from her role as the family historian, to her time as the former director of the museum and member of the Georgetown Historical Society. In addition to her historical pursuits, Debby worked as a stage manager for the Strand Theater. Her work at the theater was a testament to her belief in the power of storytelling and community engagement.
She was not only a steward of the past but also a vibrant presence in the community. Debby’s social nature made her a beloved figure on Front Street, where she spent countless hours engaging in lively conversations and sharing stories with friends and neighbors. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Survivors include a daughter, Marla Rhett Moberly Merideth of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Cole Merideth and Carson Merideth both of Georgetown; two brothers, Mark Johnson (Janet) of Georgetown and Rhett Johnson (Kathy) of Andalusia, AL; three nephews, Will King, Brian Johnson (Kim) and Seth Johnson; and three nieces, Rebecca Lewis (Brian), Halsey Blevins (Jared) and Maggie Wall (Adam).
