David Legrand Ray, 85, widower of Linda Faye Owens Ray, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, at his home.
Born on December 28, 1939, in Andrews, he was a son of the late John Causey Ray and the late Sadie Bell Taylor Ray. Mr. Ray served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Manley, USS Tidewater and USS Allen Sumner. After his time in the Navy, Mr. Ray went on to serve in the United States Coast Guard. During his time in the Coast Guard, he was stationed on Sullivans Island where he ran a 40-foot search and rescue vessel. He also served on the USCG Azalea, a buoy tender based out of Charleston.
Mr. Ray worked at International Paper Company and later worked as a machinist throughout the Andrews area. During his free time, Mr. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing playing golf and shooting pool. He was a member of Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church and the Cherry Hill Country Club.
Survivors include four children, Deborah Cremer (George) of Williamston, Jennifer Newton (Matthew) of Piedmont, Denise Ray of Georgetown and David L. Ray II (Sabrina) of Georgetown; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren, one sister, Edith Cooper of Andrews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lenora Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery.
