Dale Arthur Hicks 78, husband of Sandra Wilson Hicks, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Shem Creek Health Care Center.
Born on June 5, 1947, in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Ellis Alton “EA” Hicks and the late Ruby Arthur Hicks. Mr. Hicks moved to Myrtle Beach in 1979, where he forged a successful career as a builder and a land developer until his retirement in 2006. As the past president of Brook Construction, a part of Chicora Real Estate, Mr. Hicks was instrumental in contributing to the growth of Grand Strand. During his career, his leadership led him to serving as a past president of the South Carolina Home Builders, Horry/Georgetown Chapter.
A man of many talents and interests, Mr. Hicks was a former Rotarian, embodying the values of service and fellowship. His dedication to his community was also evident in his role at Prince George Winyah Parish, where he led tours and served as an usher. Mr. Hicks’ life was enriched by his fervent love for college football, particularly Virginia Tech football. As a proud "Golden Hokie" with the Virginia Tech Hokie Club, he was a dedicated supporter, always cheering on his beloved Hokies with enthusiasm and pride.
Beyond his professional and community achievements, Mr. Hicks cherished the moments spent in the Blue Ridge Mountains where he grew up, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature. He was an avid boater and found immense pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren, sharing with them his passions and wisdom. Mr. Hicks was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Sandra Wilson Hicks of Georgetown; two daughters, Wendy Hicks Parsons (Payton) of Pawleys Island and Shannon Michele Hicks of Charleston; three grandchildren, Anna Katherine Parsons, Louis Payton "LP" Parsons, III and Ashley Elizabeth Parsons; one sister, Sandra Kjerulf (Heyn) of Richmond, VA; a brother-in-law, Charles Van Buren Wilson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and two nieces Kathleen Wilson of Jacksonville, FL and Lindsay Wilson of Raleigh, NC.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Prince George Winyah Parish. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends following the burial at Prince George Winyah Parish.
