SFC Bobbie Elijah Cox (Ret.), 91, beloved husband of Mary Wilson Cox, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Cox was born at home, in Andrews, on June 18, 1935, to the late Elijah Cox, Jr. and the late Lillie Ackerman Cox. Mr. Cox proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his time in the Air Force, he continued his commitment to service in the South Carolina Army National Guard, where he faithfully served for 37 years. Through his dedication and leadership, he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring with honor. Mr. Cox was a member of St. Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church and the American Legion Post 69.
Enjoying the simple pleasures of life, Mr. Cox loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. Whether casting a line, enjoying time in the woods, or working in his garden, he appreciated the peace and beauty of nature.
Above all, Mr. Cox treasured his family. He deeply loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, creating lasting memories through laughter, love, and shared moments. Mr. Cox will be remembered for his faithful service to his country and the love he shared with his family and friends. His life was a true reflection of honor, humility, and dedication.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Jackie Gladding and Larry Cox (Julie); five grandchildren, Justin Alford (Mandy), John David Glisson, Devon Owens (Marshall), Cody Cox, and Lauren Clarke (John); five great granddaughters, Carmen Alford, Ella Alford, Mariah Lane Owens, Whitley Glisson and Iris Mae Owens; one sister, Agnes Roberts of Macon, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Thedis Cox, Bessie Thompson; and five brothers, Woodrow Cox, Jr., Willard Cox, Roland Cox, Ottie Cox and George Cox.
Funeral Services will be held at 5 PM Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Saints Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, with military honors, will be held in Harmony Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank Agape Hospice, a special niece, Tressa W. Morris, caregivers Margaret Thomas and Peggy Moore for the loving care they provided to Mr. Cox.
