Bill Shirer

William Emmett “Bill” Shirer, 74, husband of Sharon Baldwin Shirer, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025.

Born on September 18, 1951, in Atlanta, GA, he was a son of the late Dr. William Hampton Shirer and the late Elizabeth Emanuel Shirer. Bill retired from International Paper Company after 48 years of service. He had a deep passion for the outdoors, and found great joy in spending time hunting and fishing throughout the Lowcountry. His happiest moments were often shared with friends and family, whether casting a line in a quiet creek or tracking game in the woods. Bill also loved to capture these adventures on video, preserving memories of their trips that he cherished and shared with everyone close to him.

Along with hunting and fishing, Bill also enjoyed hosting family and friends, spending time with his beloved animals, and most of all, cherishing moments with his daughters. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; three daughters, Nicole Poston (Ray) and Elizabeth Shirer and Millison Jordan (Scott) all of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Kindal Nichols (Gary) of Georgetown, Breanne Parsons (Cody) of Andrews, Joshua Poston of Georgetown, Chance Jackson of Georgetown and Taylor Jordan of Georgetown; six great grandchildren, Bryce, Sawyer, Lilly, Lainey, Hudson and Amelia; two sisters, Adelia Ann Ruth (Rev. Devon) of Saluda and Rev. Jane Brice Jones (Jarvis III) of Fayetteville, NC; two special nephews, JJ Strickland (Leslie) of Georgetown and William Hill “Little Bill” Shirer )Meaghan) of Colorado Springs, CO; a special niece, Suzanne Shirer Pritchett (Thomas) of New Bern, NC; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Budd Hill Shirer.

A memorial service will be held at 5 PM Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Georgetown Church of Christ.

The family will receive friends following the service.
