Betty Gay Elliott Bowers, 85, widow of V. “Ray” Bowers, passed away Saturday July 8, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Georgetown following a brief illness.
Born on October 27, 1931, in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late John Alexander Elliott, Sr. and the late Pearl Ray Elliott. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Elliott; and three sisters, Lena Brown, Dorothy Brengle and Cleo Driggers.
Mrs. Bowers was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Lancaster and Surfside Beach Baptist Church. She was a current member of Spring Valley Baptist Church of Columbia where her Sunday school class was a vital part of her social life.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Bowers of Columbia and Rene B. Atkinson and beloved son in law, Russell Atkinson both of Georgetown; two granddaughters, Lauren A. Goethe (Josh) of Columbia and Missy A. McGuire (Justin) of Oxford, MS; two brothers, Dean Elliott of Lancaster and Paul Elliott of Columbia; and seven great grandchildren that brought her joy and much love later in life.
Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia with Dr. Robert Winburn officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
