Honorable Benjamin Franklin Dunn, Sr., 87, widower of Beverly Tanner Dunn, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Prince George Healthcare Center.
Judge Dunn was a respected pillar of the Andrews community, devoted to serving the town he called home. Born October 24, 1938, in Andrews, he was the son of the late James Franklin Dunn and Pearl Lofton Dunn.
His education began at Andrews High School, where he built the foundation for his future. He continued his education at Emanuel College, demonstrating an early commitment to learning and personal growth. Furthering his expertise, he later graduated from the Judicial Academy in Reno, Nevada, and the College of Charleston Non-Lawyer Judges School.
Throughout his life, Judge Dunn was deeply committed to serving his community. His 23 years as a magistrate judge, 14 years as a deputy coroner, tenure on the Andrews Town Council, service on the Waccamaw Regional Council and longtime merchant at Dunns Variety Store, illustrated his commitment to his community.
Judge Dunn was an active member of Andrews Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and in his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include three sons, Benjie Dunn of Andrews and Brian Dunn (Kathy Altman) of Murrells Inlet and Brad Dunn (Kim) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Laura Power (Travis), Tanner Dunn, Anna Dunn and Ava Dunn; two sisters, Katherine Harrison of Georgetown and Jeanette Buice of Gaffney; sister-in-law, Jeanette Dunn of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, James Herman “Jimmy” Dunn; and two sisters, Vivian Hardee (Ernest) and Rachel Jennings (Bill).
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Andrews Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Andrews Presbyterian Church, 104 S. Rosemary Avenue, Andrews, SC 29510.
