Arthur James “Jim” Buckner, 68, widower of Wanda L. Buckner, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026, at his home.
Mr. Buckner was born on July 30, 1957, in Maryville, TN, to the late Shirley R. Buckner and the late Barbara Ann Wise Quickel. He attended Ringle Heights Baptist Church and retired after 28 years of service with the South Carolina Army National Guard, including service in Operation Enduring Freedom. Mr. Buckner enjoyed the simple pleasures in life that included fishing, playing pool, coaching youth sports and watching Clemson play. Above all, Mr. Buckner enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Melissa Abernathy (Jon) of Wichita, KS, Clifton Buckner (Jasmine) of Wichita, KS, Tyler Buckner (Courtney) of Hemingway and Celeste Laster (Kerry) of Hemingway; 12 grandchildren, Austin, Josiah, Winnie, Ryneck, Kristopher, Kelton, Ebhlin, Landon, Oaklee, Ellie Mae and Magnolia; one great grandchild, Veronica; numerous other special family members.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bronson F. Quickel, Jr..
Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Ringel Heights Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
