Archie Douglas Hanna, Jr., 84, husband of Shirley Grant Hanna, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, at home.
Born on December 6, 1941, in Florence, he was the son of the late Archie Dougals Hanna, Sr. and the late Viola Benton Hanna. Mr. Hanna was a faithful man of God, a proud United States Navy veteran, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Georgetown, where he faithfully served in many areas of ministry. He led the Dr. Lide Williams Sunday School class, served as a deacon, and was involved with the Faith Evangelism Ministry and the Discipleship Ministry Master Life Class. Mr. Hanna also shared his love of music by singing in the church’s Singing Christmas Tree.
Mr. Hanna proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired after a distinguished career. During his service, he received numerous awards and commendations, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Award, and National Defense Service Medal.
In his retirement, Mr. Hanna enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his family. His faith, dedication to his country, and love for those around him were evident throughout his life. Mr. Hanna will be remembered for his faithful service, his commitment to others, and the love he shared with his family and church family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of Andrews; two daughters, Melissa Hanna (Shelia) and Michele LaBerge (Aaron); three step children, Bob Grant (Jessica), Daniel Grant (Claire) and Rita McInville (Andy); six grandchildren, Rachel Hudson, Christopher Cook (Addison), Ashley Hensley (Cody), John Douglas LaBerge, Grayson LaBerge and Hanna LaBerge; eight step grandchildren, Alston Grant (Abbey), Peyton Grant, Emma Grace Grant, Jake Grant, Wilson Grant, Mary Claire Grant, Caroline McInville and Maggie McInville; four great grandchildren, Brayden Hudson, Jonathan Hudson, Willow Hudson and Mason Hensley; one sister, Elaine Webb; and a special cousin, Charlie Mobley.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amelia Joyce Hanna; and a brother, Joseph Hanna.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, August 29, 2026, at First Baptist Church. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Lake City Memorial Park at 4:15 PM.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at First Baptist Church.
